Jackson, MS
The capital and largest city of Mississippi, in the west-central part of the state. Originally a small trading post, it was chosen as capital in 1821 and named for Andrew Jackson.
Jackson is one of the county seats of Hinds County; Raymond is the other county seat. Jackson is also a part of the Jackson-Yazoo City Combined Statistical Area (CSA). The current slogan for the city is "Jackson, Mississippi: City with Soul".
Jackson is home to several major industries. These include electrical equipment and machinery, processed food, and primary and fabricated metal products. The surrounding area supports agricultural development of livestock, soybeans, cotton, and poultry.
